The Travelling Briefcase

The Travelling Briefcase is an interactive sculpture containing several totem-objects and cards used to inform and prompt discussions around spaces, places and memories.

Harking back to the days of the 'Travelling Salesman' and the 'Avon Lady', people brought ideas and 'spaces' to others through their briefcases and containers in the form of the Miniature. Using this familiar starting point, the objects are offered to view, explore, touch, smell and listen to.

This process was designed for older people living in care homes who may be experiencing difficulties with memory, physical and sensory impairments. Combining elements of places within one curiosity object to investigate together can spark memories and different patterns of conversations.

The end goal is to capture thoughts and ideas on what a personalised temporary space, or denscape, may look like and what it would contain.
